Direct grant for green steel (Salzgitter)

EUR 700 million in federal funding and EUR 300 million in state funding has been allocated for the project "SALCOS" with the aim to produce raw green steel in Salzgitter. The complition of its first phase was due in 2025 with a planned capacity of 1.9 mtpa steel. As part of the project, the company also aims to install a 100 MW electrolyser and starting 2026, the plant will generate around 9 ktpa of renewable hydrogen.
