The Alberta Hydrogen Roadmap aims to integrate clean hydrogen into Alberta’s energy system by 2030, leveraging its natural gas reserves, CCUS infrastructure, and renewable energy sector. The plan targets hydrogen use in transportation, heating, power generation, and industrial processes, with a goal to reduce GHG emissions by 14 Mt annually. Alberta aims to become a global leader in hydrogen exports, with projections to produce 45 million tonnes of clean hydrogen per year and export 1 million tonnes by 2030. The roadmap outlines seven policy pillars, including building market demand, enabling CCUS, de-risking investment, and pursuing hydrogen exports.
