Hydrogen blending in distribution networks (2023)
The UK government has made a strategic policy decision to support blending up to 20% hydrogen by volume into Great Britain’s gas distribution networks. This initiative seeks to realise the potential strategic and economic benefits of hydrogen blending, with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) assessing its safety and feasibility on the basis of evidence from industry trials. The ultimate goal is to assess whether hydrogen blending can be safely and economically implemented, contributing to the UK’s low-carbon energy transition
