Carbon2Chem
Program volume of EUR 177 million for the first funding phase (2016-2020) and further EUR 84 million for the second phase (2020-2024). The general aim of the cluster project is to process steel mill gases for CCU to produce fuels, plastics or fertilizers. Each sub-project focusses on a part of the value chain, i.e. separation of exhaust gas or synthesis of a specific CCU product. Target is to use 20 Mtpa of CO2 from the steel production. Funding includes R&D, demonstration as well as CAPEX and OPEX for some facilities. Large parts of the project funding are dedicated to hydrogen (production, storage), and hydrogen derivatives (synthesis and use in different applications including personal transport), because hydrogen is the key chemical to re-use exhaust gas
