U.S. Representative Katie Porter (D-California) introduced the Hydrogen for Trucks Act, proposing $200 million in grants over four years starting in 2023 to support the deployment of heavy-duty hydrogen fuel cell trucks. The grants would cover capital costs for vehicles, fueling infrastructure, fuel, overhead, and personnel training. Eligible applicants include private fleet owners, public fueling station developers, government fleets, and others operating trucks over 26,000 lbs powered by fuel cells or hybrid fuel cell-battery systems. The bill emphasizes regional distribution, scalability of hydrogen projects, and requires recipients to implement hydrogen leak detection and repair programs. It is currently under review by the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology.
