Last updated: 06 February 2026

Resolution 277/2025 issued by the Secretary of Energy establishes a centralised national registry of overhead tanks for the storage of hydrocarbons and petroleum derivatives and sets out technical requirements and an accompanying sanctioning regime for operators. It repeals Resolution 785/2005 on the National Program for Control of Losses of Air Tanks for Storage of Hydrocarbons and their Derivatives

The regime requires vertical tanks greater than 50 cubic meters to carry out inspection, maintenance and repair as per the API 653 of the American Petroleum Institute. It mandates reporting of any incidents (spill, explosion, fire) within 24 hours with complete details on including cause, quantity spilled and impact.

Additionally, the resolution eliminates the obligation for operators to conduct environmental audits under Resolution 785/2005, limiting their compliance to directives established by competent local authorities.
