Regulation (EU) 2023/1804 Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation
This regulation establishes binding targets for the deployment of publicly accessible recharging and refueling infrastructure across the EU. It aims to ensure the development of a dense, interoperable, and user-friendly network to support the transition to zero-emission mobility. Starting from 2025, fast charging stations (≥150 kW) must be available every 60 km along the core TEN-T road network for passenger cars, with higher capacity requirements by 2030. For heavy-duty vehicles, charging hubs with a minimum total power output must be deployed every 120 km from 2025 and increase significantly by 2030. The regulation also sets targets for hydrogen refueling stations and mandates clear rules on payment methods, price transparency, and real-time availability of charging points to improve user experience and confidence.
