Updated Slovak National Energy and Climate Plan
The final updated NECP 2021-2030 was approved by the Slovak Government on April 2, 2022 and subsequently was submitted to the European Commission on April 15, 2025.
The NECP update states that the Slovak Republic aims to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. By 2030, the Slovak Republic must reduce its emissions from sectors covered by the Effort Sharing Regulation by at least 22.7% compared to 2005 levels. The NECP update also includes a net removal target of 0.5 million tCO2e by 2030 under its obligations under the Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF) Regulation. Other Union-level targets contributing to that climate target are at least 42.5 % of the share of energy from renewable sources (‘RES’) in gross final consumption of energy, the national energy efficiency contribution, a 11.7 % reduction in primary and final energy consumption and electricity interconnectivity is set more than 50%.
