Capacity market
The Capacity Market is a mechanism for regulating the capacity of the electricity market, which provides remuneration for operators based on the energy they are able to make available on the grid. The objective of this system, defined by the Ministerial Decree of 28 June 2019, is to guarantee the availability of electricity production capacity in the long term, in order to cope with the evolution of consumption. The actors most involved are operators who own gas-fired thermoelectric plants but also renewable sources, including for example pumped hydroelectric plants or those with an accumulation system. This new market represents an important contribution to guaranteeing long-term price signals and conditions of adequacy of the electricity system consistent with the decarbonisation objectives.
