Use of hydrogen in hard-to-abate sectors

The 2 billion euro investment aims to promote research, development and innovation in the field of industrial processes, in order to develop initiatives for the use of hydrogen in industrial sectors that use methane as a source of thermal energy (cement, paper mills, ceramics, glass industries, etc.). In particular, a specific tender is expected to be launched to support research, development and innovation in the steel production process through an increase in the use of hydrogen. The production of electrolytic hydrogen from renewable energy sources pursuant to Directive (EU) 2018/2001 or from grid electricity is also supported. Natural gas does not receive any funding under the project.
