Sweden National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP)
Sweden’s updated NECP outlines a path to achieving climate neutrality by 2045. The plan sets intermediate goals, including at least a 63% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 (compared to 1990 levels) and a 75% reduction by 2040, primarily through domestic measures. The country targets 100% fossil-free electricity production by 2040, relying on a mix of renewables and nuclear energy.
The strategy focuses on expanding wind and solar power, electrifying transport and industry, enhancing energy efficiency, and modernizing the power grid. Sweden also advances carbon capture and storage (CCS), encourages regional energy cooperation, and fosters innovation in clean technologies.
