Through the Important Project of Common European Interest (‘IPCEI') on Hydrogen, the European Union is allocating funds to support hydrogen development.
The first call for projects in July 2022 focused on developing innovative technologies for the hydrogen value chain to decarbonise industrial processes and the transport sector. In September 2022, the Commission approved funding to support the construction of hydrogen-related infrastructure and the development of innovative and more sustainable technologies for the integration of hydrogen into the industrial sector.
In 2024, the 'IPCEI Hy2Infra' was launched, aiming to support the development of electrolysers, hydrogen transmission and distribution pipelines, large-scale hydrogen storage facilities and handling terminals. In May 2024, the 'IPCEI Hy2Move' was approved to support technological innovations.
