Lower cost of consumer electricity bills
In response to the high electricity prices that arose in 2021, the Norwegian government launched an electricity support scheme to provide financial support to households due to high electricity prices. When the electricity spot price exceeds a threshold value, the scheme provides households with a compensation amounting to 90 percent of the price above the threshold value. The threshold value is subject to annual price adjustment, and for 2026 it is set to NOK 0.77 per kWh excluding VAT. Consumption exceeding 5.000 kWh per month per metering point is not eligible for support. The Norwegian Government has also reduced the electricity tax as a measure to lower the electricity costs for households and businesses.
Also, the following temporary measures were introduced following the energy crisis in 2021 to help alleviate the burden of high electricity costs: electricity support to students and adult learners, increased housing allowance for vulnerable energy customers, increases block grant to municipalities to cover higher social security payments resulting from high electricity prices. These support schemes are no longer in effect.
