Qatar- First Pilot Battery Storage Project

In 2020, the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) announced the complete installation of the first pilot battery energy storage units in Qatar. The 1MW/4MWh battery storage units were connected to the Nuaija substation on 11 kV. The battery system is used to store energy during off-peak hours, and reuse it during times of maximum load. The project is an investment from the Qatar government to balance the high demand of electricity in the summer time. The installation took a complete year, and is controlled by the the Distribution Control Center.
