The Buildings Programme

The Buildings Programme launched in 2010 aims to significantly reduce the energy consumption and CO2 emissions of the Swiss building stock. Efforts include replacement of fossil fuels based heating systems or efficient use of thermal insulation building envelop. It is financed by funds collected from CO2 tax as well as cantonal subsidies. As part of the 2027 budget relief programme, the Swiss Parliament decided to extend the Buildings Programme subsidies until the end of 2034 for replacing fossil-fuel heating systems and improving building energy efficiency, with an annual budget of CHF 410 million. The current system will remain in place during 2027 as a transition phase before a new programme comes into effect on January 1, 2028.
