National Energy Transition Roadmap
The Malaysian government unveiled the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) on 27 July 2023 to facilitate energy transition through the six main pillars - energy efficiency, renewable energy, hydrogen, bioenergy, green mobility and carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS).
Phase 1 of the NETR has attracted RM25 billion of investments from public and private sector, with the government committing a total of RM2 billion in terms of seed funding.
A non-exhaustive list of projects to be implemented are:
- Floating hydro solar power: 2500MW TNB hydro dam reservoir
- Residential solar power: Construction of 4.5 MW residential rooftop solar power plants;
- Hydrogen: Implementation of three integrated hydrogen production plants in Sarawak
- Eco-friendly mobility: 10,000 EV charging stations; electrification of public transport;
- Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS): Petronas-led catalyst project in the high-CO2 Kasawari and Lang Lebah gas fields
The government will complete the final section of NETR in Phase 2 with a comprehensive action plan and initiatives to spur investment and economic activity
