2023 DOE Critical Materials List

The US Department of Energy (DOE) presented an updated list of critical materials for energy. This complements the list of critical minerals published by the US Geological Survey, as required by the Energy Act of 2020. The public notice also includes an assessment that forms the basis for the designation of critical materials for energy.  
The 2023 DOE Critical Materials List includes the following critical minerals for energy:  

  1. Aluminium
  2. Cobalt
  3. Copper
  4. Dysprosium
  5. Electrical steel (grain-oriented electrical steel, non-grain-oriented electrical steel and amorphous steel)
  6. Fluorine
  7. Gallium
  8. Iridium
  9. Lithium
  10. Magnesium
  11. Natural graphite
  12. Neodymium
  13. Nickel
  14. Platinum
  15. Praseodymium
  16. Silicon 
  17. Silicon carbide. 
  18. Terbium

Items in bold do not appear on the list published by the US Geological Survey.
