The Corporations Act 2001 is the framework legislation for the regulation of businesses in Australia, ensuring uniformity across the States and Territories. The Act regulates company formation, shares and voting, corporate governance, director's duties, takeovers and insolvency. The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) is charged with general administration of the Act. Companies must comply with continuous disclosure requirements by providing material price sensitive information on a timely basis and complying with listing rules of the relevant market.
