Last updated: 11 December 2023

Under Resolution 40109, the Columbian Geological Service (SGC) adopts the "Guidelines for the knowledge and geological mapping of the Colombian subsoil, in the royalties cycle." The Guidelines aim to comply with the SGC's mandate to generate and consolidate geological knowledge for the use of mineral resources and for the consolidation of the energy supply chain. They are structured around the following objectives:

  1. To contribute to the development and competitiveness of the country through the utilisation of the soil and subsoil resources;
  2. To increase the availability of geological information for planning and policy-making purposes;
  3. To generate value for different interest groups through geological knowledge as a fundamental tool for sustainable development and the environmental, energetic, social and economic transition.

The Guidelines include the objectives of advancing the identification of areas with critical and strategic mineral resource potential and of promoting exploration and increasing investment in project development. A special emphasis is placed on exploration for gold, copper, phosphates, uranium, carbons and clays.
