Green Mining RDI

Business Finland, formerly known as The Finnish Funding Agency for Innovation (Tekes), established this research and innovation programme based on the Green Mining concept, with the aim of making Finland's mineral cluster the world leader in intelligent and minimum impact mining. Over the course of 5 years, the programme provided 116 million EUR funding to over 100 projects spanning the 5 pillars of the Green Mining Concept (promoting materials and energy efficiency, ensuring availability of mineral resources for future needs, minimising adverse environmental and social impacts, improving work and organizational practices, and ensuring sustainable land use following mine closure). The Geological Survey of Finland (GTK) coordinated or participated in multiple projects focused on exploration techniques, mineral processing, mine environments and social aspects related to mining.
