DENR Administrative Order 2022-04: Enhancing Biodiversity Conservation and Protection in Mining Operations

Last updated: 27 October 2022

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources promulgated this order to provide adequate measures for responsible mining and minimise negative impacts on biodiversity.

At every stage of mining operations, mining companies are required to undertake biodiversity measures: before the exploration stage they must conduct a biodiversity assessment; before the development and utilisation stage, they must have an approved progressive rehabilitation plan in accordance to tools and methods found in other guidance; and at the closure stage, there must be at least an 85% survival rate of established vegetation by the end of the rehabilitation period, among other standards.

At every stage, companies need to conduct progressive rehabilitation of areas where mining operations occurred--indicators for rehabilitation activity are included in the Order.
