Australian government is supporting the development of a Daintree renewable microgrid, incorporating an 8 MW solar farm, 20 MWh of battery storage and a 1 MW green hydrogen plant for North Queensland communities. It will be a valuable demonstration of solar to hydrogen technology. AUD 18.75 million has been granted for facility development over 3 years. The grant is being delivered under the Daintree Microgrid Program, following a feasibility study completed under the $50 million Regional and Remote Communities Reliability Fund. The project is due to start in 2022 and the microgrid is due to be operating by 2024.
