Fraunhofer Society
Established in 1949, the Fraunhofer Society is a network of 72 applied research institutes in Germany. The Fraunhofer Society was founded as a non-profit organization to reorganize and expand Germany's research infrastructure after WWII. The Fraunhofer Society have a solid track record on advancing applied energy research receives 30 % of its budget from the public, while the remaining 70 % are remaining percent must come from awarded public contracts or directly from industry. The five energy-related institutes are: Solar Energy Systems (ISE), Wind Energy System (IWES), Energy Economics and Energy System Technology (IEE) and two separate institutes in Energy Infrastructures and Geothermal Systems (IEG).
