R-2000: environmentally friendly homes
The R-2000 program is funded under the Budget 2017 Energy Efficiency in Housing, Industry and Transportation which has been allocated CAD 67.5 million in the first four years and CAD 15.9 million in ongoing federal funding. Originating as far back as 1980, R-2000 is a building standard created by the EPA and administer for Canada by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), which has features such as higher levels of insulation and more energy efficient windows and appliances resulting in a homes using 50% less energy than a regular home built to code.
