Net Zero Emissions by 2050 Accountability Act
The Canadian Net-Zero Emissions Accountability Act (CNZEAA) became law in 2021. It provides a durable framework of accountability and transparency for Canada’s climate action and path to net-zero emissions by 2050. The Act requires that the Government of Canada establishes five-year national emissions reduction targets, 10 years in advance, on the path to net-zero emissions by 2050. The Act also requires that the Government of Canada develops credible, science-based emissions reduction plans to achieve each target, at least five years before the beginning of the year to which it relates.
