New podcast episode highlights 10 options to ease impacts of rising oil prices on consumers

The latest episode of the IEA’s Everything Energy podcast explores the steps that governments, businesses and households can take to reduce the impacts of rising oil prices amid supply disruptions stemming from the war in the Middle East.

Now available on Apple Podcasts and Spotify, the episode features Stéphanie Bouckaert, Head of the IEA’s Demand Sectors Unit, and Lucas Boehlé, an IEA analyst focused on energy efficiency. They note that while the IEA is coordinating the release of 400 million barrels of oil from its Member countries’ emergency reserves to help counter the supply disruptions, actions on the demand side can also play a key role.

On the episode, they discuss 10 immediate options that could help shelter consumers from the effects of the current oil market shock, from encouraging work from home where possible to reducing speed limits on highways and ensuring liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) reaches those who need it most for cooking.

The Everything Energy podcast offers perspectives on a wide range of leading global energy issues. To learn more about the emergency oil stock release, you can listen to our previous episode, where IEA Director of Energy Markets and Security Keisuke Sadamori answered key questions on the historic collective action by IEA Member countries.

"This report provides a menu of immediate and concrete measures that can be taken on the demand side by governments, businesses and households to shelter consumers from the impacts of this crisis. I believe it will be of use to governments around the world"
