World Energy Outlook 2021: Latin America highlights

Paris Time
Webinar

Background information

The World Energy Outlook (WEO) is the IEA’s flagship publication that has appeared every year since 1998. It provides critical insights into global energy supply and demand in different scenarios and the implications for energy security, climate targets and economic development.

The 2021 report, released in October, is uniquely structured as a guidebook to the international climate negotiations at COP 26, with analysis on what pledges to reduce emissions mean for the energy sector and the climate – and what more needs to be done. For this, the analysis relies on the IEA’s landmark report – Net Zero by 2050: A Roadmap for the Global Energy Sector – which is now an integral part of the pioneering energy modelling work that goes into producing the WEO each year.

This webinar, co-organised by the International Energy Agency (IEA) with the Mexican Energy Ministry (SENER) and the National Commission of Energy Efficient Use (CONUEE), will cover the main highlights of the WEO 2021 report with the latest updates on the global scenarios, the critical role of energy efficiency in clean energy transitions and a focus on the Latin America region.

The webinar will be held in English with simultaneous translation into Spanish.

IEA E4 webinars

Since 2014 the IEA has co-organised a total of 29 webinars in Latin America on a range of energy efficiency topics, as part of the Energy Efficiency in Emerging Economies (E4) Programme. These have focused on policies and technologies, the multiple benefits of energy efficiency, Energy Efficiency Market Reports and many other energy efficiency related topics. Cumulatively, the webinars have been attended by 6 410 people from a wide range of backgrounds, sectors and countries (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay to name a few), with particularly strong participation from Mexico.

The aim of the webinars is to stimulate dialogue and increase awareness and knowledge to advance energy efficiency in the region.
