Coal Mid-Year Update
Add to calendar
Background information
Coal remains the main source of energy – particularly for electricity – in many countries. At the same time, it is the largest source of energy-related emissions, accounting for 45% of the total.
As a result, coal markets factor directly into discussions about energy security, affordability and sustainability today. This Coal Mid-Year Update provides analysis of the most recent trends in coal demand, production, trade and power generation, following the publication of Coal 2024 in December. It includes preliminary estimates for the first half of 2025 and updated forecasts for 2025 and 2026, based on the policies and market conditions now in place.
