Advancing Gender Equality

Background information

Clean energy transitions present an opportunity to address gender inequalities present in our energy systems, such as persistent gender gaps in the energy workforce, including in high-level positions, in energy-related education and in energy access. At the same time, clean energy transition programmes and policies can impact men and women differently. Taking the needs of women into consideration and ensuring their engagement as decision makers helps create clean energy transition plans that are sustainable and inclusive.

This session of our Global Summit on People-Centred Clean Energy Transitions explores the key gender dimensions and questions at the heart of the transition of our energy systems, especially as they relate to gender gaps in energy access, workforce development, informal economy, entrepreneurship and education.
