Real-Time Emissions Factors

The real-time CO2 data provides up-to-hourly information on CO2 intensity and emissions from the power sector.

It is based on electricity generation and demand data sourced from transmission system operators, market operators, statistical agencies, and other public platforms. Emission factors are calculated combining the latter with data collected annually from national statistical offices.The dataset is refreshed on a daily basis.

This dataset enables the monitoring of daily and intraday variations in CO2 intensity and power sector emissions at the country level.

Our dataset is highly granular, with approximately 100 data points per country, per day. When querying the data, please consider its potential scale. For example, requesting data for 10 countries over a 5-year period would return roughly 18 million data points. We recommend optimising your queries accordingly to ensure fast and efficient access.

Disclaimer: Generation data of the past week, one week one month ago and one week three months ago is collected daily and processed to obtain CO2 emissions and intensity following this methodology. In addition, data for a few countries is only available live, which may easily results in data losses.

The data provided through this application is derived from such data sourced from publicly available transmission system operators, market operators, statistical agencies or other public websites. Please note that these sources may update their content retroactively without prior notice or version tracking. As a result, the datasets made available here reflect the state of the data as it existed at the time of collection. While we strive for accuracy and reliability, we cannot guarantee the completeness or correctness of the data, and users should be aware that discrepancies or errors may exist. We recommend independently verifying any critical information before use.
