Typical lifetimes for steel, cement and chemicals assets are 40 years and 30 years respectively. In the “25-year investment cycle” case considered here, all assets are replaced by or converted to low-carbon alternatives at the first 25-year refurbishment point after the new technologies are assumed to be commercially available.
