AC = Air-conditioning unit. A climate is assumed to be “hot” when the sum total of the difference between the daily mean outdoor temperature and the base temperature of 10°C (cooling degree days with base temperature of 10°C) adds up to at least 5 000 over the course of one year. Need for space cooling does not necessarily correspond to the need for installing space cooling equipment, but rather a need to consider cooling-oriented design options during the building construction phase.
