Based on IMEO data of all actionable oil and gas plumes, methane leakage rates and persistence in 2025. The ability of satellites to detect emissions varies based on a range of factors (see Documentation); emissions in the figure are exclusively based on events that were verified by MARS and thus are not meant to reflect the overall distribution of emissions between regions. Potential reductions are based on implementation of mitigation measures within 30 days of receipt of the first MARS notification.
