The Herfindahl-Hirschman Index (HHI) is often used as an indicator of diversity, with a lower total HHI indicating a more diverse mix (the possible range is from near zero to 10 000). Note that this aggregated metric does not account for diversity within a fuel source, for example between local and imported resources or for VRE sources geographically spread out, nor for sources of flexibility such as interconnection and demand response.
