Digital maturity across grid segments among surveyed network operators, 2026

Sources

IEA survey conducted for this report (2026), based on 25 network operator responses: 11 transmission operators and 14 distribution operators. Given the small sample size, these results should be read as indicative of broad patterns rather than as statistically representative.

Notes

The vertical axis represents the breakdown of network operators by response, and the colour represents the fraction of their network which they have visibility of or control over. Estimated visibility and control correspond to the following responses to the survey: Mostly = 51 to 75% of the network; Partially = 26 to 50% of the network; Rarely = under 25% of the network. For example, 60% of distribution operators have no controllability over at least half of their network.
