…using blended finance structures can adjust project risk–return profiles to appeal to private investors. Under the SAS, concessional funds to support private mobilisation increase tenfold to USD 28 billion by 2030. Carbon markets can attract investment by supporting project revenue streams for a variety of projects. They can have a particularly strong impact on clean cooking, which already accounts for almost a quarter of credits issued from Africa in the voluntary market. However, to ensure the effectiveness of carbon markets, countries first need to adopt solid regulatory, monitoring and verification frameworks. The global investor community also represents an important capital source…

                Clean Energy Transitions Programme 2024

…CETP has supported over 320 high‑level meetings with policy makers, conducted 735 workshops and technical exchanges with over 12 000 participants, produced or enhanced over 200 reports, policy briefs and data products, and delivered 42 training events to almost 1 200 policy professionals. In Africa, the IEA helped secure USD 2.2 billion in funding through a landmark summit on access to clean cooking, while in Asia and Latin America, it helped countries such as Indonesia and Brazil to advance clean energy policies. In addition to supporting countries at the national level, the CETP contributed to global platforms such as the Conference…

                Affordability

…energy services. For many products, such as refrigerators, highly efficient models use less than half of the energy of inefficient models. A best-in-class model can save up to 40% in total lifetime cost (purchase and energy) compared with an inefficient one.Energy efficiency can lead to an improved quality of life. For instance, in sub‑Saharan Africa, 80% of the population could afford to buy and use all key appliances – including lights, TV, fans and a refrigerator – when choosing high‑efficiency models, provided there is sufficient access to electricity. This figure drops to 50% when choosing low‑efficiency models, leading many…

In 2019, Chad’s energy mix was dominated by biofuels and wastes (85%) with oil products accounting for the rest of the total energy supply. In 2020, less than 5% of the population had access to clean cooking and 8% had access to electricity. The electrification rate is one of the lowest in Sub-Saharan Africa. The country has 30% electricity access target by 2023 and up to 53% by 2030, with a 20% rural access target by 2030.
