Germany's 2nd Amendment to the Building Energy Act (GEG) - phase-out of fossil fuels

In 2023, German Federal Government approved amendments to the Building Energy Act for new heating systems to use at least 65% renewable energy from 2024 onwards and for fossil fuels to phase out from heating by Jan 2045 in line with its climate-neutrality target. The ban will initially apply to new buildings, existing buildings will still allow a gas system until the deadline for municipalities to submit a heat plan (2026 for large cities and 2028 for towns). New gas boilers will continue to be allowed to be installed, if these boilers are operated with renewable gas, including hydrogen…

The project controller is the Peru-based mining company Minsur S.A., with Chile's Empresas Copec S.A. as co-sponsor. A key aspect of this project is the long-term off-take agreement between the project company Marcobre S.A.C. and Germany's Aurubis AG, one of the world's largest producers of copper and a global leader in copper recycling. This agreement ensures the delivery of copper concentrates to the German market. Commercial production at Mina Justa was slated to start in 2021.

Germany's Special Climate and Transformation Fund - Promotion of energy efficiency and renewable energy measures in the building sector

Funded by the KTF, the BEG supports the systematic renovation of residential and non-residential buildings including heating systems and other measures. Essential for support is that renovated buildings meeet higher effeiciency house standards. The availabale support is rising with the standard achieved through the systemic renovation. Furthermore, the BEG supports standalone energy effieciency measures. Essetial for support is the increased energy efficiency. Fundable are isolations, heating systems, etc. For spendings under the EBM, the measures have to be apporved by insatlling comoanies or certified energy-efficency experts (EEE). Consultancy from EEEs is also finaciallaly supported.
