                The Catapult Network

…2011, the catapults are independent research and technology organisations that bridge the gap between R&D and industry by acting as a ‘translational infrastructure’ to commercialize innovative ideas. They are inspired by a report on the future role of technology and innovation centres in the United Kingdom written in 2010 by entrepreneur Dr. Hermann Hause. The funding model of the catapults is a “thirds model” which is composed of one third from a core grant from the UK Government via United Kingdom Research and Innovation (UKRI); one third from industry partners; and one third from collaborative R&D…

Argentina, Brazil, Canada, France, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the Republic of South Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States signed the GIF Charter in July 2001. Subsequently, it was signed by Switzerland in 2002, Euratom in 2003, and the Peoples Republic of China and the Russian Federation, both in 2006. Ten of the 13 members have since signed or acceded to the Framework Agreement. These countries are working together to lay the groundwork for the 4th generation nuclear reactor (Generation IV). Nuclear power plant technology has evolved as three distinct design generations: Prototypes, Current…

                Investment for floating offshore wind

More than GBP 60 million in public and private funding will be invested in floating offshore wind projects to develop new technologies that will allow turbines to be placed in the most windy areas along the UK's coastline. More than GBP 31 million is funded by the government and more than GBP 30 million is funded by industry. The cash boost will further research and development in floating offshore wind with projects across the United Kingdom. The research will focus on areas such as how turbines are moored to the seabed, undersea cabling, and developing foundation solutions.

UK Green Jobs Taskforce and North Sea Transition Deal

…The green jobs lifecycle is defined as employment in an activity that either directly or indirectly contributes to the United Kingdom’s net zero emissions target and mitigates climate risks, and therefore covers a broad range of economic sectors. It builds upon reforms to the skills system established under the government’s Skills for Jobs White Paper that introduced new T Levels technical qualifications, flexible apprenticeships, Skills Bootcamps and occupational traineeships. The task force’s report notes that one in five jobs in the United Kingdom (6.3 million workers) will require skills that may see increased demand (10% of…

…and 46.5%, respectively, from 2018 levels by 2030. For the energy sector, the methane reduction plan identifies several actions, including reducing consumption fossil fuels by reducing coal and LNG power generation and improving energy efficiency. The plan notes that Korea will work towards calculating natural gas fugitive emissions based on country-specific emissions factors rather than default factors. The plan requires relevant ministries to prepare a 2030 implementation plan that takes these targets into account.  The government further committed to actively work together with key partners on methane, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union.
