Pacific Agreement on Closer Economic Relations (PACER) Plus
The Pacific Agreement on Closer Economic Relations Plus (PACER Plus) is free trade agreement between Australia, New Zealand, Samoa, Tuvalu, Kiribati, Tonga, Solomon Islands, Niue, Vanuatu, and Cook Islands.The Agreement immediately eliminates tariffs on imports into Australia and New Zealand from the other signatories. The Crown Minerals Act of 1991 promotes prospecting, exploration, and mining of Crown-owned minerals in New Zealand by providing for the efficient allocation of rights, the effective management and regulation of those rights, and a fair financial return to the Crown. Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) for Electric and Gas Appliances
Australia's Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) are part of the broader Equipment Energy Efficiency (E3) program. The E3 program aims to increase the energy efficiency of appliances and equipment used in Australia and New Zealand. As at December 2010 May 2019, MEPS covers 17 22 product types including refrigerators, freezers, clothes dryers, electric water heaters, air conditioners and electric motors. Swimming pool pumps and portable air conditioners will be added in 2020.

Fuel Industry Act
The law regulates the fuel industry and establishes clear rules governing interactions and competition among its participants. The 2023 amendment established a minimum fuel stockholding obligation under Part 4. This sets out the minimum amount of stock fuel importers must hold within New Zealand’s Exclusive Economic Zone. The obligation applies to petrol, diesel and jet fuel.

Low Emission Vehicles Contestable Fund
The Government established a contestable fund to encourage innovation, investment and help accelerate uptake of electric and other low emission vehicles in New Zealand. Funding started in 2017, and regular rounds were set to boost charging infrastructures uptake.As of 2024, about $80 million were disbursed by the EECA through this fund, with more than 1400 EV chargers co-funded nationwide, and more than 700 co-funded chargers operational.
