ln August 2017, as of the first countries in the world, India published fuel-efficiency standards for commercial heavy-duty vehicles. Phase 1 came in effect on in April 2018, while Phase 2 is effective in April, 2021.
The regulations are aimed at reducing fuel consumption and greenhouse-gas emissions from diesel-powered trucks and buses with a gross vehicle weight of 12 tonnes or greater.
They apply to both vehicle manufacturers and importers. A conformity-of-production test will be undertaken by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways once every two years.
