Background

The International Energy Agency (IEA) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) are conducting an Experts’ Dialogue on the 29th of March 2019, in Paris to inform the development of the IEA’s Global Technology Roadmap for Iron and Steel. The Roadmap aims to explore the implications of a sustainable transition for the iron and steel sector to help achieve key UN Sustainability Goals and to set out priority implementation actions.Experts’ Dialogue on Effecting the Sustainable Transition of the Iron and Steel sector

This transformation will not be possible without strong international cooperation, political support and investment. This is true of all areas of the energy transition, but particularly so in energy-intensive industrial sectors producing globally traded outputs. This workshop will bring together leading international experts from industry, governments, multilateral development banks, foundations and the research community. The aim is to discuss effective enabling mechanisms to accelerate the necessary transition, and strategies to mobilise investments and reduce the associated risks. The conclusions from this workshop will inform the roadmap.

This Workshop is by invitation only
