The International Energy Agency is pleased to announce the IEA for EU4Energy Energy Efficiency Training Week, which will be held in Tbilisi, Georgia from 16-20 October 2017 inclusive.

Building on the success of the IEA E4 training week held annually in Paris, the IEA for EU4Energy Training Week will bring together ‘next generation’ energy efficiency professionals from government institutions and supporting organisations across the region. The event aims to build capacity among policy makers and statisticians, and to equip them with greater knowledge and skills on developing energy efficiency initiatives in their countries. The participants will become part of the international energy efficiency community with a larger support network as they progress through their careers.

The IEA is leading the implementation of the EU4Energy Programme funded by the European Union (EU) for the following Eastern Partnership (EaP) and Central Asian countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan (the Focus Countries). The programme’s aim is to work with the 11 beneficiary countries on improving energy data capabilities and enhancing data collection and monitoring, as well as assisting them in evidence-based energy policy design pertinent to the country’s needs.

The Training Week consists of 5 parallel courses on energy efficiency in: 1) buildings; 2) industry; 3) lighting, appliances, and equipment; 4) transport and 5) energy efficiency statistics. Participants attend one of the 5 courses depending on the area in which they have the most experience and interest. Each course offers a mix of lectures, interactive discussions, practical exercises and a site visit. All participants will attend sessions on assessing the potential for energy efficiency, tracking progress, communication campaigns and finance as well as a special focus on measuring the social and economic benefits of energy efficiency measures.

The Energy Efficiency Training Week in Tbilisi is tailored to the EU4Energy region and is envisaged to take place once during the EU4Energy programme tenure. There is no charge to attend the training and the IEA will cover travel and subsistence expenses of the selected participants. To apply, please complete the online application form by no later than 15 September 2017. Priority will be given to government officials working in the 11 focus countries of the EU4Energy programme -- Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. The IEA will contact applicants by mid-September to inform them whether or not their application has been successful.

All nominees must have relevant work experience and currently hold a position relevant to the course that they wish to take. The training will be provided in English with simultaneous interpretation into Russian.
