Key World Energy Statistics

Key statistics on the supply, transformation and consumption of all major energy sources

Key World Energy Statistics (KWES) is the IEA's introduction to energy data and statistics, including energy indicators, energy balances, prices, RDD budgets, CO2 emissions and forecasts. Explore the highlights below or download KWES as a PDF.

Energy balances

An energy balance helps us understand how energy products are transformed into one another. It also highlights the various relationships among energy products, and show how all energy types are ultimately used.

For example, natural gas from domestic production and imports might end up being used to produce chemicals in industry, as a transport fuel, or to generate electricity. For a visual representation of an energy balance, visit the IEA's energy balance sankey diagram.
