Description:

The Revised Sixth National Development Plan is the medium-term investment plan of the Government for achieving the Vision 2030 objective of making Zambia a "prosperous middle-income country by 2030". Energy has been identified as one of the key investment areas where the objectives are: 

  • to expand electricity generation by at least 1,132 MW and expand transmission and distribution capacities,
  • to increase electrification in rural areas from 3 to 8%, and
  • to expand the use of renewable energy in the country's energy mix and increase generation of electricity from renewable energy sources from 1,989 MW in 2012/13 to 3,121 MW by 2016.
