The complementary U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) standards that make up the Heavy-Duty National Program apply to combination tractors (semi-trucks), heavy-duty pickup trucks and vans, and vocational vehicles (including buses and refuse or utility trucks). On September 15, 2011, the final rule was published covering model years 2014-2018 for all on-road vehicles rated at a gross vehicle weight at or above 8,500lbs, and the engines that power them, except those covered by the current GHG emissions and Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards for MY 2012-2016. For each of the three main vehicle categories, specific CO2, CH4, and N2O standards are provided.
