Policy Target:Carbon Capture Storage
Agency:U.S. Department of Energy

The Gasification Systems Program supports development and deployment of gasification technologies—processes that can turn coal into power, chemicals, hydrogen and transportation fuels, and can be used to capture the carbon from the coal for sequestration or for enhanced oil recovery.

The Gasification Systems Program developes advanced technologies; coordinates and works with other DOE programs, national laboratories, and private organizations; educates the public about gasification; and engages in discussions with the public and industry concerning what the future of gasification should be to reduce the cost and increase the efficiency of producing syngas.

In FY2016, Gasification Systems was reduced to small scale testing with only 1-2 projects transitioning to bench-scale testing.
