Description:In May 2005 FERC adopted standard "small generator" procedures for the interconnection of generators no larger than 20 megawatts (MW) in capacity. The rule harmonises state and federal practices and directs public utilities to amend their Order No. 888 open access transmission tariffs to offer non-discriminatory, standardised interconnection service for small generators. The FERCs standards apply only to facilities already subject to the jurisdiction of the commission; mostly, these are not local distribution facilities but systems that interconnect at the transmission level. The FERCs standards include a Small Generator Interconnection Procedures (SGIP) document and a Small Generator Interconnection Agreement (SGIA).
