Responding to the recommendations of the Eddington study, and reflecting the findings on the Stern review of the economics of climate change, the Department for Transport (DfT) published "Towards a Sustainable Transport System" in Oct 2007. The strategy sets out the UK Governments priorities and strategic transport planning to 2014 and beyond. One of the strategys five goals is to address climate change, and stimulate carbon dioxide (CO2) emission reductions in the transport sector. The strategy explores a range of options for reducing emissions from transport, both domestically and internationally, through pricing carbon, encouraging modal shift, and stimulating the development of low-carbon transportation technologies. Climate change concerns will be incorporated into support packages for municipal and regional governments.
