Description:The aim of the DTIs Domestic PV Systems Field Trial (DFT) is to use the design construction and monitoring of a wide range of domestic types of installation as a learning opportunity for key players in the process of PV installation. Information will be gathered on the constructability, operating performance, reliability and maintainability of bolt-on and building integrated PV (BIPV) systems. The demonstration projects under the scheme sought to highlight the potential for combining technologies with energy efficiency. They covered both installation of the systems, as well as monitoring the day-to-day performance of each PV system, data for which was collected over a period of two years. The scheme ran from 2001 to 2006, with a total budget of GBP 4.7 million (excluding management costs). 28 projects were completed; 16 were new-build, 10 were retrofits, and 2 combined both. The projects included a wide range of property types, including houses, f lats, bungalows; and different types of PV systems: PV tiles, laminates and modules. Over 470 dwellings benefited, and over 740 kWp of PV was installed.
