TRANSPORT 2025 is the Research Council’s new strategic programme on transport R&D. It is a broad-based, long-term research programme aimed at the whole transport area and a sustainable transport system for the future.

The programme will address transport issues related to road, rail, sea and air traffic, and include passenger as well as freight transport. In addition, the programme will address challenges facing each of the four modes of transport and the interaction between them.

The preliminary work programme identifies seven thematic priority areas:

  • Improved mobility;
  • A competitive Norwegian private sector;
  • Greater transport safety and security;
  • Sustainable urbanisation and regionalisation;
  • Improved climatic and environmental conditions;
  • Future-oriented infrastructure;
  • Overall perspectives on the transport system.

At present, activities under the programme will incorporate the following five structural priorities:

  • Promoting cross-sectoral perspectives;
  • Helping to enhance quality;
  • Working to build capacity;
  • Ensuring relevance in relation to knowledge needs;
  • Targeting innovation and change.
